Who inspired today's broken heart song?
A young woman who recently had her heart broken by the same person. She's been writing a private blog to him for over a year with so much hope that they will be able to make the relationship work.
I wrote this song as a conversation between the couple. I could feel in her words how much love she has for this person. We've all heard the saying, sometimes love isn't enough (I hate that saying). And although these two are deeply in love with each other, timing is just not on their side. They both want different things in their lives right now. Her heart is broken without him, but she knows he loves her. When I read this story, I felt true love - and I'm a sucker for true love.
Where did you play?
I had the pleasure of being accompanied by the talented Jason Schneider of Jet Black Sunrise this evening. We originally planned on playing at Jay St. but it was dead, so we decided to perform at West 4th St. There were a lot of musicians on the platforms, which was really cool.
How much did you earn?
$9.11 (most of which went to a rewarding pizza dinner)
Did anything unusual happen?
There was a very drugged woman who came up to us asking if she could play. I said no, and then she looked quite angry. She stood there staring for a while, which made me a little bit nervous. I admit, I thought she was going to take our cash and run. But I think she was just so lost in another world.
There were a lot of cops roaming around, which also made me really nervous. I kept looking down and singing really softly when they walked by. I will forever have a fear of getting arrested now. And bologna sandwiches. Thankfully, none of them seemed to be bothered by us.
Did you meet anyone interesting?
A nice fellow named Mike stopped to chat with us about the project. He was really friendly, and shared several of his subway experiences. One involved him falling on his bottom when running into the train, and being saddened by the fact that no one cared to ask him if he was okay. I think he was happy to hear that I'm trying to fix the disconnected culture we've created in this city with my project.
What's the best advice you received from a stranger?
No advice tonight. But my advice to anyone ever taking a video of themselves is not to put a camera below you unless you want a smashing double chin shot - so sexy.
How are you feeling?
So tired. It's gotten to the point where I can't have a proper conversation with anyone because my brain can't function. Sadly, I think I'm going to take tomorrow off to rest and write more songs. I work Monday and Tuesday (have to pay the bills somehow) and then I'll continue strong and refreshed with Day 5 on Wednesday.
Thanks again for keeping up with my journey. I look forward to writing more songs inspired by your stories.
